It seems that each year John will travel to far flung places just before the holidays. This year he went to speak at the Brazil's 5th annual Mass Spectrometry conference just outside of Sao Paulo. No real chance to see the sights, but he did make it in to the local Walmart and reports that you can feel right at home.

Follow-up collaborative work (searching Google) reveals that the coriales effect is far to weak to have an influence on the direction of water circulation. The shape of the basin and other starting conditions dominate.
It was then off to England to speak at the London Mass Spectrometer User's Group followed by visits to Oxford University.
After finishing those presentations and visits, being in the neighborhood, I stopped in on John & Dakin and the kids in Coventry. They were sure surprised when they answered the door Friday evening. We got to go to McDonalds for lunch on Saturday and to the Church Christmas party in the evening.
On Sunday after church, Dakin out did herself and prepared a wonderful dinner with roasted duck and parsnips. Of course, dessert each evening was Sticky-Toffee Pudding topped off with Clotted Cream. Litterally, it makes your heart stop!
Elizabeth is 5 and she currently is sporting to missing front teeth. She did a wonderful performance of "My Two Front Teeth" as part of family home evening on Sunday.
Grandma had also sent along a great new Christmas book with wonderful stories. Grandpa got to read one to the kids which will long be remembered.
